Jaclyn and Mike met through a close mutual friend and Mike took Jaclyn to an Oilers game for their first date. Jaclyn had never really followed hockey, but from that night forward Mike taught Jaclyn about every aspect of the game. Jaclyn became a huge fan of the Oilers, and many of their date nights were spent going to Oilers games. Frequently, Jaclyn would stay up reading stats about the various players and quizzing Mike on different rules and scenarios.
Finally, when it came time to propose, Mike thought it only fitting to do it at Center Ice in Rexall Place. The plan took months to orchestrate, but thanks to some string pulling from his friend Aaron and his father Lyle, with their contacts at the rink, the plan was set. Mike began to craft an excuse to get Jaclyn to come to the rink with him to an Oilers practice day. On December 23, 2015 Mike told Jaclyn that Lyle had set up a meet and greet for them to watch the Oilers morning practice. The practice was early, and it was Jaclyn’s day off work to sleep in, but after a little convincing Jaclyn agreed to come along. They watched the morning practice and when Lyle offered to take their picture at center ice, Jaclyn was in disbelief and very excited. As they were posing for the picture, Mike got down on one knee and told Jaclyn that this is where their story began and it was only fitting that it continue there. Jaclyn was shocked, it was the biggest surprise of her life, and she said “yes”!
Mike and Jaclyn were recently married with a wedding day that featured a hockey theme, mixed with a little classy and a little rustic. They had customized “Official Wedding Puck” hockey pucks for their wedding favours and their guest book was an Oilers jersey for their biggest fans to autograph. The ceremony took place at Holy Cross Ukrainian Church. The reception was held under a big top tent in Mike’s parents’ backyard. The weather early that morning was rainy, but as the day progressed it turned out to be beautiful. The day truly was their fairytale wedding.
