Late in the summer, I had the privilege of being invited for a cake tasting at LauraBella Treats. After meeting Debra, the owner, a few times, I was very much looking forward to seeing her kitchen in person–LauraBella treats lives in a standalone kitchen, custom built for baking wedding cakes, cupcakes and chocolate, and hosting clients for tastings.
We hopped in the car for our little ‘date night’ tasting and headed towards Stony Plain, where LauraBella Treats is based. The journey was surprisingly quick – just minutes from Edmonton’s west end – and we were there before I knew it! If you have any reservations about venturing to Stony Plain for a cake tasting, I can confidently say that after being welcomed so warmly and tasting the selection of delicious cakes, I’d make the journey again in a heartbeat. It’s practically a date night in itself, and a sweet way to spend the evening – pun intended!
Our tasting featured red velvet, chocolate, and cookies and cream cakes. Wow – these were incredible! Debra prides herself on using Bernard Callebaut chocolate in all of her cakes, and the result is delicious and decadent. My personal favourite was the red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream icing – it was simply a perfect combination.
