After the bride and groom share their first dance, it’s common that there will be one or more other special dances to follow. While it used to be common to have a bridal party dance, as well as a father-daughter dance with the bride and her dad, and maybe even a mother-son dance between the groom and his mom, these days couples are choosing all sorts of combinations and alternatives to the traditional special dances.
Who says a bride can only dance with her father? With the special bond that so many mothers share with their daughters (not to mention the massive amounts of help mothers often give when planning a wedding), it can be very special for the bride to share a dance with her mother on her wedding night.
A mother-daughter dance can be as simple as choosing a song and the two (or four) women enjoying a moment on the dance floor with it. Another neat option is to have the bride escort her mother to the dance floor and begin dancing to the song that they’ve chosen. Then, about a quarter of the way into the song, you can have the DJ invite all of the mother and daughter duos who are present to come out to the dance floor and join in. It’s a great way to get both sides of the family onto the dance floor, right from the start of the night, and it’s sure to create a memorable experience for your guests.
While most songs that seem fitting for a mother daughter dance are slow, sweet and meaningful, there’s nothing stopping you from getting your groove on with your mom to something a little more upbeat, or breaking out a surprise choreographed dance like the ladies above!
We asked our pals on social media for their favourite mother daughter songs, and we got some great suggestions. we’ve added a few of our faves, and included links to listen to the songs – enjoy!
