from Hevin Mueller of Story Weddings and Events:

Evan and Courtney contacted Story Weddings & Events requesting for their wedding be planned from scratch in 4 months time. There was no time to waste, and with maximum speed, thus began the wedding planning process! From finding the perfect venue (and we visited quite a few) for their intimate wedding of 40 guests, to selecting the best-suited vendors for their pretty pale vintage-inspired wedding. In the middle of the frigid winter, we enjoyed hot cocoa in our planning meetings every week. After several months of intense planning, Courtney and Evans’ wedding vision came to life, with time to spare!

how did you meet?

We were on the same team at work, and we emailed back and forth a bit. One day I was going out for lunch and he asked if he could come with me, and I was petrified! I was like oh no, I am going for lunch with a boy, what if it is so awkward and we have nothing to talk about?! Because before then, we pretty much only talked over email. Then, I moved teams, we started hanging out more often, going for walks at lunch, out for drinks after work… and the rest is history! Inseparable ever since!!!

what was the proposal like?

Evan wanted to propose in my favourite place in the whole world…so he chose to do it at home! We were relaxing on a Saturday night, watching a movie, eating some popcorn, with a nice drink. A little background on the story first…when I first told Evan I loved him, we had just eaten some Kinder Surprise eggs. I had the little yellow container that held the prize, and decided to write a note saying “I love you!!!” on it. When I gave it to him, he was so surprised that he was speechless. So back to the Saturday night: After the movie he told me he had something for me, and gave me a Kinder Surprise egg. I opened it, and inside was a piece of paper saying “I love you!!!” Seeing the look of confusion on my face, Evan said, I have another one for you. So I opened that one, and it read “Will you marry me?” and I look up, and he is holding my ring in his hand!!! I just remember telling him how cute he is and how he probably didn’t even watch a minute of the movie, the poor thing, and finally he asks me…”so is that a yes?”

YES!!

tell us about the planning process!

Before we really even knew what we wanted, we met with Hevin with Story Weddings & Events. She helped us figure out what we wanted and gave us many options to choose from. She made sure we were on track with all of our decisions, and had a lot of suggestions for vendors that would suit our needs. She made the whole process a lot less work than it could have been!

was there anything you were worried wouldn’t work, but turned out awesome?

We were worried that everything wouldn’t come together how we hoped it would in our heads, but with the help of our wedding planners, they kept us on the right track and were there to give us the advice we needed so that it all came together beautifully in the end.

what was the best moment of the day?

We both agree that the best moment of the day was when the doors at the ceremony opened, and we saw each other for the first time that day. But really, the whole day was a lot of fun!!

got any advice for someone planning an edmonton wedding?

Our advice would be to not do things just because it is conventional. If you want to do something different that suits you better, just go for it, it is your day. Also, don’t get too stressed out about the small details. It will all fall into place before the big day.
