how did you meet?

Jordan: A mutual friend was having a birthday party that led to going out to a club (which turned out to be a strip club). Recently single, I was looking to get out of the house and have a fun night with friends. When I arrived, I found that the party consisted of myself, one other guy, and all of my friend’s aerobic pole-dancing coworkers. So here I was in a sea of women all laughing, having a good time, and I knew none of them. But, out of the corner of my eye, I spied this one girl who was so different, one couldn’t help but notice her. During a lull in the conversations I was having with other guests, that same girl leaned over and asked me what my name was. We talked for hours that night and she’ll be the first to tell you that I haven’t stopped.

Chelsea: He hasn’t.

what was the proposal like?

Jordan: On our fifth anniversary, after a lovely dinner at Culina Mill Creek, I suggested we grab a drink. I sneakily told her I had some cash at home and needed to grab it while she waited in the lobby of our apartment building. She patiently waited for about 10 minutes, completely unaware that I was busy on the roof patio of our building setting up a blanket with candles and champagne and preparing for the big moment! She eventually grew suspicious and texted me, asking about my whereabouts. I directed her to the roof where I got down on one knee and popped the question. A few tears and sniffles later, she said ‘yes!’

tell us about the planning process…

Chelsea: I knew from the moment Jordan proposed what I wanted in terms of wedding décor: glamour vintage style. However, being on a budget forced me to get a bit creative and make some cuts. The first cut was going forward without a wedding planner. It took a lot of time and research to find what I was looking for, but the end result was more beautiful than what I ever could have imagined. Of course it helped having a super talented graphic designer husband who did our invites, place cards and thank you cards.

was there anything you were worried wouldn’t work but turned out awesome?

Chelsea: I had my typical wedding day concerns. “Will everything start on time?” It didn’t. “Will all the candles be lit at the reception?” They weren’t. But all of those things are minor. Everything ended up being so amazing and magical, that those worries all seem so silly now.

Jordan: I wasn’t worried about anything. Surrounded by family and friends – the people we already know and love – I didn’t feel any pressure at all.

what was the best moment of the day?

Jordan: The best moments were the unscheduled ones. The few moments we got to talk to each other after the ceremony while other things were going on: freezing while taking the photos, private chats with our parents and siblings, and taking down the decorations at the end of the event. It was a perfect day because I married my best friend, but it was only framed and enhanced by the special moments that one can’t plan for.

Chelsea: This is an easy one for me. It was when Jordan and I were standing outside of the reception hall waiting to make our big entrance. It was the first moment where there weren’t a thousand things happening around us, and Jordan took advantage of it by leaning in close to me and whispered the words, “You are beautiful.” Took my breath away and reminded me why I was marrying this man.

got any advice for someone planning an edmonton wedding?

Chelsea and Jordan: Think differently. This city has an endless supply of beautiful places to be married. There are a million options to consider, but the things you’ll remember most are the people you have with you, and what they’ll remember is the experience you give them. It’s important to make the day uniquely you, but also to ensure your guests have a great time. Focus on what is important to you and make it a priority.
