how did you meet?

T: Danielle and I first met playing dodgeball against each other with the Edmonton Sport and Social Club in the fall of 2011.  Though we didn’t spend too much time together, she definitely left an impression on me with her friendly and bubbly personality.  We later crossed paths in the winter at friend’s house parties and I felt that I needed to find a way to get to know her better.  The perfect opportunity arose when the ESSC held a spring dodgeball tournament in which I was a captain in the player draft to determine the teams.  Some say that I may have selected her a bit early, but I jumped at the opportunity to select her in the second round.  From this tournament we got to know each other a lot better and started dating shortly after.

what was the proposal like?

T:  In August of 2013, I wanted to take Danielle on a trip to New York,  as it is one of my favourite cities.  After a week of sports, museums, site-seeing and exploring, I arranged a special surprise in Central Park, on Wednesday, August 28th.  The only issue was that it was pouring rain come early afternoon.  After a few sneaky texts and emails, I was able to regroup and make plans for the following evening.  After an afternoon spent in a museum, I guided Danielle towards Central Park where a horse drawn carriage waited for us at the gates.   We took a brief ride to Cherry Hill where a picnic was set up, overlooking “The Lake” in Central Park.  After enjoying champagne, bread, cheese and charcuterie and listening to Danielle nervously babble, I asked her to be my wife.  I was delighted when she said “of course” and excited to begin this new chapter of our lives together.

tell us about the planning process!

D: The first thing we decided on was that we definitely were going to ask Hevin (Story Wedding & Events) to be our wedding planner. She had helped plan my sister’s wedding, and I knew I wanted her help plan our day too! After that, everything was pretty easy. We both weren’t picky about the small details, and we knew which big items were the most important to us. We were very lucky to get all of the vendors we wanted, on the day we wanted. And with the support of our friends and family (& Hevin) everything fell into place perfectly.

was there anything you were worried wouldn’t work, but turned out awesome?

D: On the day before the wedding, the biggest rain storm of the summer hit Edmonton. The forecast for the wedding day also called for rain, and many of our out of town guests had their flights into Edmonton cancelled, which put a lot of stress on both of us. With our ceremony being outside, we had mentally prepared ourselves for a typical rain shower, but not for a monsoon. I must’ve received 50 texts from people the day before the wedding telling me they were going to pray to the weather gods for me. We even had to cancel the rehearsal at the venue the night before because of the weather. Luckily, the rain cleared up at (30 minutes before we were supposed to begin) and the rest of the day was perfect.

what was the best moment of the day?

D: I expected to be so nervous on the day, but I ended up being super calm. Because of this I was able to enjoy every minute of our wedding day. I really loved looking out into the crowd at the ceremony, seeing so many of our friends and family, and realizing how lucky we were to be surrounded by so much love. If I had to pick one moment it would be our vows – Tim was so close to tearing up! I also really loved the speeches, the rock-paper-scissors game, and being so amazed by our same-day edit video that played at the reception.

got any advice for someone planning an edmonton wedding?

D: We are so lucky that Edmonton is home to so many amazing vendors and venues. I feel like every couple should be able to find the right vendor for them, in their price range. My best advice for couples planning their wedding is, to deal with one issue at a time, and don’t sweat the small stuff! The day is about celebrating you as a couple, and it should be fun, and full of love!

vendor shoutouts – what vendors made your day awesome?

All of our vendors were AMAZING!!!

wedding planner: Story Wedding & Events – Hevin – We can’t say enough about how amazing Hevin was during this whole process.  She is very passionate about her job and provides a wealth of knowledge that newly “engageds”may not think about.  Her organization kept us on track, her kindness kept us at ease and she definitely helped us keep our sanity in the weeks leading up to the big day.

photography: Curtis Round Photography – Curtis – Curtis is fantastic, and I recommend him to EVERYONE! Our photos were amazing, the price was was a steal, and we have received so many compliments. Curtis captured the day perfectly!

stationery: Glossie – Nicole – I don’t have a very creative brain, so I was worried I wouldn’t be able to express what I wanted. Nicole’s consultation process was very easy, and she was able to take my few ideas and turn them into beautiful wedding invitations!

makeup: HP Make Up Artistry – Haley – As I don’t wear a ton of make up often, Haley didn’t mind me asking for a few trials until I figured out exactly what I wanted. I loved my make up on the day, and my bridesmaids looked STUNNING!

hair: Lisa Marouelli – Lisa is amazing, and listened to everything I had to say at our first trial. She did all of the bridesmaids’ hair on the day, and it was perfect!

videography: A Love Story – If you are looking for a videographer, definitely check these guys out! We did a love story video before the wedding, and surprised our guests with a same-day edit video, featuring the events from earlier in the day, during the reception. The videos are so amazing, and we can’t wait to see our full-length video!

flowers: Bunches Flower Co – Eric – This is another vendor I borrowed from my sisters wedding! He is very knowledgeable about flowers, and offers many alternatives to keep the costs down.

ceremony venue: Magrath Mansion – Cindy – Magrath Mansion is a stunning venue, we were so happy to get it! The whole team worked hard to create a perfect atmosphere for our ceremony.

reception venue: The Quarry Golf Course – Even though it was the Quarry’s first wedding, it was as if they had hosted 100!  The view and venue were breathtaking and they provided amazing food and service all evening.

ceremony music: A Musical Memory – Martina – A Musical Memory provided the perfect compliment to the Magrath Mansion with a classic violin and harp duo.

officiant: Thanx on Time – Joan’s organization and attention to detail kept the wedding party on track and it was like having a second wedding planner.

entertainment: Premiere DJs – DJ Paul delivered on all our of song requests and had our guests up on the dance floor all night!

cake: Whimsical Cake Studio
