‘Angela and Patrick both wanted a fairly traditional wedding, but not too formal. They were more interested in creating an intimate atmosphere in which they could truly enjoy celebrating with their family and friends!
Rather than choose a theme, they decided to subtly highlight their interests and hobbies. Angela, who loves drawing, created the images for their wedding invitations and place cards. She and her mom crocheted dish cloths in a variety of colours as favours for their guests. Angela and Patrick also like alligators so naturally, their place cards and cake toppers feature alligators. They are an elegant and soft-spoken couple who prefer vintage style and so their wedding attires exuded gentle sophistication. They had an emotional first look at Delta Edmonton South Hotel before they headed to their ceremony location. Their choice of wedding venue was so excellent as the Celtic Hall regularly hosts medieval games nights on non-wedding days.’ – Funmi & Adrian (FO Photography)
once again, we’re excited to feature FO Photography‘s images, and Angela and Patrick’s wedding is just the type of wedding we love to feature on yegwed – we love the subtle and sweet ways that these two incorporated their personalities throughout the planning and decor! without further ado – here are the images, along with the story behind their big day. enjoy!
how did you meet?
we were introduced by a friend. she arranged a study group for some night classes, and we were both invited to several of her parties. after about a year, i suddenly realized i found Patrick really attractive, so i took some time to hang out with him and then asked him for a date. the rest is history!
what was the proposal like?
it definitely wasn’t a storybook proposal, but it suited us and makes for a fun story to tell! we were having a romantic dinner at The Melting Pot the night before my birthday. Patrick told me he had something he wanted to talk to me about. my heart leapt into my throat, and then he said, “i wanted to propose to you tonight, but—” and my anticipation gave way to confusion. it turned out that the ring we chose together was much too expensive to ship to Canada. he didn’t want to choose another ring without me because he wanted me to be really happy with it. so, we chose one together the very next day and he proposed as soon as we got home. it sounds a little silly, but it was really sweet.
was there anything you were worried wouldn’t work, but turned out awesome?
we weren’t sure how people would feel about our handmade wedding favours. washing dishes is a chore, so would people enjoy receiving dish cloths as presents or not? gladly, our guests were thrilled and we even had people trading for their favourite colours and hoarding the ones that were left behind. it was really fun for everybody and we were delighted!
what was the best moment of the day?
Angela: for me, it was the first look. i’d waited for so long to show Patrick my wedding dress, and i couldn’t wait to see his face.
Patrick: the reception, because everything had gone according to plan and we were able to just relax and enjoy ourselves with our family and friends.
got any advice for someone planning an Edmonton wedding?
have two professional event planners in your family! if that isn’t an option, definitely network as much as you can and ask your family, friends, and co-workers for recommendations. the majority of our vendors and our venue were either brought to our attention by people we know, and they were all spot on. we are definitely grateful for all of the great suggestions, since our day turned out amazing!
vendor shoutouts – what vendors made your day awesome? list as many as you think deserve mentioning!
all of the vendors were amazing, but we would especially like to mention the wonderful venue, the Celtic Hall, and commend them on their incredible service, delicious food, and beautiful decorations. they did an amazing job and we loved their courteous staff. we are also especially grateful to the Wild Orchid for providing us with absolutely gorgeous flowers that matched our vision perfectly. last, but certainly not least, we thoroughly enjoyed the tunes provided by Hear… By Request. our guests had so much fun choosing what they could dance to and we had people on the floor until the party shut down. not only that, but they displayed excellent preparedness and professionalism. when the DJ they initially assigned us had an emergency, we were assigned a new DJ immediately.
